WA Government Opens Consultation on Solar, Battery and EV Charger Connections

The WA Government has published an issues paper setting out seven proposals to improve data quality and connection timeframes for distributed energy resources on the South West Interconnected System.

Seven proposals build on the December 2025 rule changes

Energy Policy WA, part of the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, released the paper on 20 July. The proposals build on household connection rule changes made in December 2025 and are aimed at strengthening the role rooftop solar, batteries and EV chargers play on the SWIS as their combined share of the grid continues to grow.

The department is seeking feedback on the issues paper proposals before developing detailed regulatory proposals for a further round of consultation.

Submissions close 18 August

Feedback closes at 5pm AWST on Tuesday 18 August 2026, addressed to epwa-submissions@deed.wa.gov.au. Businesses connecting DER to the SWIS on a daily basis, including installers and retailers, are part of the audience the consultation is asking to hear from.
